Operation Hometown Heroes wants everyone, including people with disabilities, to be able to use this website. Many of the veterans and families we serve have disabilities, so this matters to us.
What We Have Done
- You can use the whole site with a keyboard, and the item you are on is clearly highlighted.
- A “Skip to main content” link appears at the top of every page for keyboard and screen reader users.
- Images that carry meaning have text descriptions, and decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them.
- Text and background colors were chosen for strong contrast.
- Form fields have labels, and form messages are announced to screen readers.
- Pages adjust to different screen sizes, and text can be enlarged without losing content.
- The Facebook video does not load or play until you choose to, and the site respects your device’s setting to reduce motion.
Our Goal
We aim to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. We have built the site with those guidelines in mind, but we have not yet had a formal outside accessibility audit, so we cannot promise that every page fully meets them.
Known Limitations
- Content from other companies. Our donation forms (Zeffy), Venmo, and the Facebook video are provided by other companies, and we do not control their accessibility.
- Documents. The Financial Assistance Application (a Word file) and the Vetstock press release (a PDF) may not work equally well with every assistive technology.
If You Have Trouble
If you cannot use part of this site, or you need information in another format such as a large-print, plain-text, or accessible version of a document, tell us and we will help. We can also take a request for assistance by phone or email instead of through the website form.
Email contact@operationhometownheroes.org and include the page address, a description of the problem, and the way you would like to receive the information. Your feedback helps us improve.
